British Car Terminology
Where can one go for help with the little linguistic foibles that
make life so interesting? Why, right here, of course. Actually,
the best place to go first is to the SOL
British Car Terms dictionary, which will tell you most everything
you need to know. Below are some terms I've found that aren't in the
dictionary and should be explained somewhere.

Additional Terms
- AFAIK
- As Far As I Know
- BMIHT
- British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. These folks can sell
you a production certificate, or 'birth record,' for your british
car. Suitable for framing!
- Bodge
- The British Automotive equivalent of a hack. Something which
works, but isn't pretty; lots of electrical tape in a circuit
represents a bodge. So does a non-spec part jammed in and made to
function through visible improvisation. Remachining a part to make
it work is a fix, not a bodge.
- DIY
- Do It Yourself. Sometimes the only option with these
vehicles.
- FWIW
- For What It's Worth
- IMNHO
- In My Not-so Humble Opinion
- Offer Up
- British for 'put in place' or 'test fit' as far as I can tell.
'Offer up the manifold whilst a colleague bolts it down' is one
example. 'Offer up the dashboard to test the fit' is another.

parts and accessories for your LBC.

accessories vendor.

maintains an excellent website on
all things, people and events Triumph.
