The
Complete Official Triumph TR6 and TR250, Model Years
1967-1976 (The Bentley Manual)
- Author: British Leyland Motors
- Binding: Paperback
- Our Price: $42.00 (List $60.00)
- Publication Date: 1978
- Review: What can you say? It's THE BENTLEY
MANUAL. The Book. The Tome. It's a large, blue and white
colored monster that will lurk in your shop. This is
actually a reprint from Robert Bentley Motor Books of the
original British Leyland shop manual, and has a reprint
of the Driver's Manuals from the various cars thrown in.
598 pages. The book is a standard shop manual, and
contains detailed instructions as disseminated to
Triumph's own army of mechanics on how to do anything and
everything to your TR6. Personally, I prefer to Xerox the
relevant pages and work from them near the car, since the
book itself is on fairly thin paper stock and is somewhat
pricy. If you want to do your own work on your TR6, you
should at least check out this book. Steal/borrow it from
a friend to evaluate.

Triumph
TR6 Restoration (Practical Classics & Car
Restorer)
- Author: Practical Classics Magazine
- Binding: Paperback
- Out of Print
- Publication Date: 1993
- Review: This volume contains a wealth of
pictorial information on the restoration of a complete
'basket case' TR6 to 'mint' condition. The project was
undertaken in Britain by the staff of Practical Classics
magazine, and was sponsored by a tool firm. The book
itself is formatted as a trade- or magazine-size
paperbound volume, with glossy color plates and cover.
The car itself? It ends up in unbelievable shape. You'll
get pictures of the pile of rusty parts that they begin
with, and pore over pictures of all stages of the TR6's
resurrection, ending with shots of a car that you'd
gladly (if you're like me) sacrifice enormous pain to
own. That's just what you'll get when you read their
totting up of the cost, too. I won't spoil the surprise.
This book is worth having around to give you a good
general idea of the phasing of such a major project, as
well as the project's planning and flow. The pictures are
quite useful for technique information on the more
'artistic' side of auto bodywork. They also help minimize
the British/American English confusion (being told to
offer up the bit for planishing almost caused a blush
before I figured it out). The mechanical information is
not very detailed- they settle for telling you which
procedures to perform, sending you hunting through the
Bentley or Haynes books for more information. That's
okay, though- that's what those books are for, and they
realized they shouldn't waste space redescribing
procedures which could be used for more pictures. The
real value in this book is the minute detail of the body
repair and project management. -J.B. Zimmerman,

The
Haynes Weber, SU and Zenith-Stromberg Carburetor
Manual
- Author: A.K. Legg, et. al.
- Binding: Paperback
- Our Price: $13.95 (List)
- Publication Date: 1996
- Review: If you're new to carbs, then this book
is for you. I'm a complete tyro, and the first read
through this book gave me enough confidence to take the
tops of my carbs and wiggle around in there. The second
read through brought more understanding. The third (in
progress) may finally be the thing that serves to get me
off my fundament and into rebuilding an old ZS or two to
have as spares. Like all Haynes books, it contains line
art. There are photo plates as well, detailing the
operation of these carbs. There is no apparent bias over
carb makes; the Weber, SU and ZS sections are all handled
evenly. I really don't know enough (yet!) about the
carburetor to tell you if this book is accurate, or way
off. I do know, however, that in the two minor repairs to
my carbs I've had to make (damper rod, diaphragm) and for
tuning information it helped me out immensely. If you're
familiar with your carburetors, then this book may be
aimed below you; still, it might be handy reference.

- Review: (by Larry Bickel)
Around 1990 I puchased a performance manual
Triumph TR-6 Performance: Parts, Sources and
Procedures for the Enthusiast, copyright 1989 from a
John P. Fitzgerald, which covers all the right parts to
put on your TR6 to make it go better. I bought it for my
TVR 2500 which has the TR6 driveline. It is a well
written spiral bound booklet of 34 pages and has three
main sections- Suspension Modifications, Engine and
Driveline Modifications, and Triple Weber DCOE 40
Conversion. The writer includes explanations of his own
mistakes and corrections and a list of suppliers. It was
well worth the $15 I paid for it even though none of the
suspension mods (except for the limited slip differential
section) applied to my car. I highly recommend this
manual, even if you are not modifying your TR6 but I
would see if it is still available from him at that
address.
