TR6 Door/Window Handle Replacement

J.B. Zimmerman

This is a stooopid thing to have a problem with, but it produced much swearing
until I figured out this little stupid trick. *JUST IN CASE* y'all out there
have had this problem, here goes:

Those darn pins that hold in the window and door handles really tick me off. I
recently got a set of the springs that go behind them, and I was having the
damndest time getting the pins in, because having to press the escutcheon back
against the spring made it hard to maneuver the pin and the handle...etc. My
solution:

  1. Hold the pin with a hemostat (medical clamp; available cheap at drugstores) because the hemostat mouth is narrow enough to maneuver behind the handle
  2. Put the spring on the crank, behind the door panel
  3. Put the escutcheon (plastic disc) on the crank
  4. Put the handle on the crank
  5. Move the disc slightly offcenter (THIS IS KEY) on the crank so that pressing back on the *handle* will move the disc back as well
  6. Then, using just one hand to press on the handle, maneuver the pin into place with the hemostat
  7. As soon as the pin is settled, wiggle the disc back onto centerline, so that the handle barrel slips through its center.

...bingo. you're done. Have a homebrew.
